3 Stages of Dementia and Self-Care Seminar
A seminar series to understand the three main stages of dementia; what to expect; how to respond; and how to communicate and care for the person effectively, followed by a self-care seminar. Designed for community caregivers, friends, and family members.
Location: 414 South Jefferson St. Napa
Mondays from 10:30 - 11:30 a.m.
July 9
Early Stage
Learn about the early stages of the disease and how to keep your loved one engaged and feeling purposeful.
July 16
Mid Stage
During the middle stage of Alzheimer’s, the dementia symptoms are more pronounced. The person may confuse words, get frustrated or angry, and act in unexpected ways. Damage to nerve cells in the brain can also make it difficult for the person to express thoughts and perform routine tasks without assistance.
July 23
Late Stage
In the final stage of the disease, dementia symptoms are severe. Individuals lose the ability to respond to their environment, to carry on a conversation and, eventually, to control movement. They may still say words or phrases, but communicating pain becomes difficult. As memory and cognitive skills continue to worsen, significant personality changes may take place and individuals need extensive care.
July 30
Self-Care Seminar
Caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s or dementia can be deeply meaningful—but also emotionally and physically demanding. This seminar offers caregivers a compassionate space to reconnect with their own well‑being. Participants will learn practical self‑care strategies, stress‑management techniques, and tips for building sustainable support systems. Through guided reflection and shared experiences, caregivers will gain tools to nurture resilience, prevent burnout, and care for themselves with the same dedication they give to others.
