Grief can be a difficult journey to navigate, and often words alone are not enough to express the emotions that come with loss. Music has a unique ability to connect us to our feelings, memories, and experiences, offering comfort, understanding, and a sense of connection when we need it most. Healing Grief Through Music is a supportive group designed to help participants explore and process their grief through a variety of music-centered experiences in a safe, compassionate, and welcoming environment.
Throughout the group, participants will engage in music therapy-informed activities that encourage reflection, expression, and connection. Together, we will listen to and discuss songs that explore themes of grief, loss, remembrance, hope, and healing. Through lyric analysis, members will have the opportunity to explore how songwriters give voice to emotions that can sometimes feel difficult to express ourselves.
Participants will also be invited to share songs that hold special meaning in relation to their loved ones. These musical memories can help keep meaningful connections alive, provide opportunities for storytelling, and allow us to honor the people we have lost while sharing their impact with others who understand the grief experience.
In addition to listening and discussion, the group will include active music-making experiences such as drum circles and bell playing. These activities offer a powerful nonverbal outlet for emotions, foster a sense of community, and create opportunities for emotional release, grounding, and connection with others on a similar journey.
No musical experience is necessary to participate. The focus of this group is not on musical skill but on using music as a tool for support, self-expression, remembrance, and healing. Together, we will create a space where grief is welcomed, stories are honored, and music serves as a companion on the path toward healing.
