The UpValley Village, one of Collabria Care’s “Wellness” programs, launched in July 2017. The program is designed to help older adults stay in their homes and communities as long as possible by offering help with home projects, transportation, providing referrals and activities. Residents from Yountville, St. Helena, Angwin and Calistoga are eligible to join and be part of the Village.

Volunteers are the backbone of the program. Recently, the newest Village volunteers went through an orientation with Anne House, Collabria Care Volunteer Resource Manager and Myrna David, UpValley Village Program Manager. The orientation included information about Collabria Care, its mission, vision, and values. It also covered the Village volunteer philosophy of utilizing the volunteer talents and skills to make deep connections with Village members. In recent weeks, Village volunteers have made meals, played card games, hung curtain rods, replaced light bulbs, moved furniture and drove members to many doctors’ appointments.

UpValley Village is always on the look-out for warm and compassionate people to join their volunteer team. Volunteering for the Village has some requirements, but once a volunteer is vetted, the commitment of time is pretty flexible depending on availability.

More good news from the Village: the City of St. Helena just provided a grant for 10 St. Helena residents in financial need to join the Village “on scholarship.”
