Napa Valley Meets the Mediterranean Diet: Brain-Boosting Foods for Cognitive Health

Middle Eastern meze platter with green falafel, pita, sun dried tomatoes, pumpkin and beet hummus, olives, stuffed peppers, tabbouleh, figs. Mediterranean appetizer party idea

What does Italy, Greece and Spain have in common with Napa Valley besides wine?

The Mediterranean climate blueprint of warm, dry summers and mild, wet winters is found on only 3% of the Earth’s surface and is the “secret sauce” that makes Napa and Sonoma so distinct.  And that means that accessing fresh foods, including the elixir of gold – olive oil is right here within our reach.

The Mediterranean Diet and the MIND Diet (Mediterranean Intervention for Neurodegenerative Delay) are patterns of eating that have been shown to promote brain vitality, improve cognition, reduce hypertension and dementia risk. Both diets include many brain-healthy superfoods packed with Omega-3s, antioxidants and healthy fats.

So fire up the grill as you fuel your brain on fish (salmon, mackerel), veggies (bell peppers, tomatoes, asparagus), along with a salad of dark green veggies while sipping a glass of your favorite Napa wine! Ah and leave room for a small treat of dark chocolate and coffee – both also great brain healthy foods!
