Omi Board Excitement at Adult Day Health

Participants use the Omi Board

Joy and excitement abounded as participants gathered around the Omi Interactive Board for its debut at our Adult Day Health (ADH) center. Anticipation quickly turned into laughter as curious smiles spread from face to face.

Colorful beach balls drifted across the screen, inviting everyone to join in. With sweeping arm movements and gentle gestures, participants worked together to brush the beach balls away—each motion revealing more of a familiar image beneath. When the final beach ball disappeared, the smiling faces of The Beach Boys filled the screen, perfectly timed with the opening notes of “Surfin’ Safari.”

The Omi Interactive Board is an award-winning, touch-activated technology designed to enrich dementia care and enhance daily engagement. At ADH, the Omi Board serves as an inviting, interactive surface that encourages participation through gentle movement, visual stimulation, sound, and play. With just a simple touch or gesture, participants can explore activities that support cognitive engagement, memory recall, relaxation, and emotional well-being.

One of the Omi Board’s greatest strengths is its accessibility for people of all abilities. The system is mobile and easy to use, allowing staff to bring meaningful activities directly to participants—whether in a shared activity space, a quiet room, or another comfortable setting within the center. This flexibility helps ensure everyone has the opportunity to engage in ways that feel supportive and empowering.

The Omi Board offers exceptional flexibility, allowing staff to tailor experiences to individual interests, abilities, and care goals. Activities can be personalized or created specifically for our participants, making each interaction more meaningful. Because the board responds to even the slightest movement, it naturally promotes gentle physical activity, mobility, and hand-eye coordination.

Activities include:

  • Interactive quizzes and games that spark conversation and support memory recall
  • Calming therapeutic scenes and sounds, such as nature landscapes and flowing water, which are especially popular for relaxation
  • Social and group-based activities that encourage participation, physical dexterity, and shared enjoyment

Through these experiences, the Omi Board helps bring people together—fostering connection, laughter, and moments of joy—while supporting the holistic health and well-being of those we serve at ADH.

We are grateful to you, our donors and supporters for funding this amazing resource through your generous donations the Providence Community Health Foundation Napa Valley.
