SUMMARY:3 Stages of Dementia – August 2025
DESCRIPTION:A three-part seminar to understand the three main stages of dementia; what to expect; how to respond; and how to communicate and care for the person effectively.\nThis series is for community caregivers, friends, and family members.\nEarly Stage – August 8\nEarly Stage- Learn about the early stages of the disease and how to keep your loved one engaged and feeling purposeful.\nMid Stage – August 15\nMid Stage – During the middle stage of Alzheimer’s, the dementia symptoms are more pronounced. The person may confuse words, get frustrated or angry, and act in unexpected ways. Damage to nerve cells in the brain can also make it difficult for the person to express thoughts and perform routine tasks without assistance.\nLate Stage – August 22\nIn the final stage of the disease, dementia symptoms are severe. Individuals lose the ability to respond to their environment, to carry on a conversation and, eventually, to control movement. They may still say words or phrases, but communicating pain becomes difficult. As memory and cognitive skills continue to worsen, significant personality changes may take place and individuals need extensive care.\nThese informational classes are offered as a free community service Pre-registration is appreciated but not required.\nRegister with Melissa Gerard, melissa.gerard@providence.org or 707-815-6258\n
